Jay FM has captivated our community over the years with his especially lush and poignant compositions, ranging from downtempo to progressive house. Always gracing his productions with the perfect blend of transcendent melodies and chilled grooves, the beloved Irish label veteran treats us to the "New Dimension" EP, featuring three deep-progressive gems.
The mesmerizing vocal number "Perception" kicks off Jay FM's release. The plucking bass lines and supple chord progressions, so rich in texture and spacial qualities, are reminiscent of many late nights spent dancing in low-lit rooms. Enchanting vocals and accompanying textures only enhance the song's rolling groove. The intoxicating atmosphere, which forms a tunnel of sound around the listener, provides much needed insulation from the stresses of the day, if only for a few soothing minutes.
The title cut, "New Dimension," is an impassioned, uptempo progressive offering. Delicate arpeggios and stirring pads leave ample headroom for the rolling rhythm to carry the track into its emotionally charged main breakdown. During these few quiet moments of the breakdown, affecting vocal textures make their entrance in the mix and keep the midrange feeling fresh, as the track begins to build once again. These same vocal textures turn into a dominating force as the core elements form back around them throughout the second half of the song, fulfilling the song's promise of a deeply moving climax.
Closing out the EP, Jay FM reveals the more introspective, percussively centered "Just Once." Each new layer of the groove takes center stage, while captivating harmonies subtly fill out the soundscape. Careful listeners are rewarded with hidden aural treasures buried within the mix, especially during the more intricate latter half of the arrangement. One cannot help but feel transported, not 'just once,' but throughout this mesmerizing sonic voyage.
Fell in love with this track on the various Silk mixes from Max Flyant and the Silk 2019 Deep House mix. Really like a lot of what AMR is doing. Matt Novakowski
